How To Become A Freemason Today
We believe men are first made Masons in their hearts, and then they ask to join our Fraternity. Freemasonry will take these men, already good men in our community, and help make them better men.
Each man brings something different into the Fraternity, as different as the types of men who become Masons. However, each shares a core of common beliefs & dreams; each brother believes that, even in a small way, by every one of his actions, he helps make his world, his community & himself better.
Freemasonry accepts no one for membership unless he comes of his own free will & accord, having already obtained a favorable impression of our Fraternity.
There are few other requirements. You must:
- Be a man age 21 or older (although women & younger people can join related groups),
- Believe in a Supreme Being,
- A belief in the immortality of the soul,
- Live an ethical life, and
- Have a strong interest in the Fraternity with a desire to participate in our charities & activities.
An application fee is also required, followed by a background investigation on all applicants.

What is Freemasonry?
One of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, Freemasonry's roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles.

For Freemasons, there are four important values that help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. In today’s world filled with uncertainty, these principles ring as true now as they have at any point in the organisation’s history.
Integrity
Freemasonsare focused on building themselves as people of integrity, and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal. Being a Freemason gives members a sense of purpose, supporting and guiding them on their journey through life. Collectively, members are bonded through an understanding of unity and equitability – principles fundamental to Freemasonry.
Friendship
Freemasonry provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life. Being a Freemason means something different to each person who joins, but whether looking to make acquaintances or develop their own potential, all members share a sense of togetherness that strengthens their ability to succeed and grow.
Respect
Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion, or other perceived differences that can divide us as a society. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to talk openly about what the organisation does and what it means to be part of it.
Charity
Kindness and charitable giving are deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry and the organisation provides the structure for members to make positive contributions to their communities and various causes through fundraisingevents or volunteer work. Individuals can make an important contribution at local, national and global level by giving both their time and money.

Becoming a Freemason means you’ll be joining about 175,000 members throughout Uganda, Kenya, USA, England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas.
Membershipis open to people from all backgrounds and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.
We have
more than 7,000 Lodges, with any man over the age of 18 welcome to join,
irrespective of their race or religion. Students are also able to join one of

Ways to join
There are several ways to become a Freemason. If you don’t know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to contact your nearest Lodge.
